MoveOn Joins Calls for RFK Jr. to Pay Back NYC Taxpayers and Face Accountability for His Disqualifying Bear Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – As reported in Politico and CNN, MoveOn Political Action has launched a petition calling for an investigation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following recent revelations that he had taken and dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park – a secret he irresponsibly kept to himself for 10 years. With more than 5,000 signatures and counting, the petition demands that RFK Jr. be held responsible for these heinous actions by repaying the city.

According to a recent tweet by Comptroller Brad Lander, RFK Jr.’s actions have cost the taxpayers of the City of New York approximately $23,694.67 since the 2014 incident, as well as the time of numerous city and state agencies. While RFK Jr. wants to paint the incident as a harmless prank, he actively evaded responsibility for his crimes for 10 years and refused to come forward until caught by The New Yorker. In a video he posted on Sunday, he admitted to monitoring news coverage and investigations into the matter as various city resources were spent cleaning up his mess. RFK Jr. even expressed concern about his fingerprints on the bicycle he planted to make it look like the cub was killed by a cyclist.

“RFK Jr.’s appalling and disqualifying actions have cost New York City taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars – money that could have been spent providing vital social services to the city’s residents,” said MoveOn Political Action spokesperson Britt Jacovich. “RFK Jr. may think his repulsive behavior is funny, but it’s no laughing matter to the taxpayers of New York City. This latest embarrassment proves yet again that he should be nowhere near any position of power, let alone the presidency. He must pick up the tab for New York City taxpayers and end his campaign immediately.”
