After throwing a temper tantrum because he didn’t qualify to share the debate stage with President Biden and former President Trump, RFK Jr. decided to hold his own “counter-programming” – consisting of a bizarre, one-man “debate” and an interview with Dr. Phil – which he hoped would turn the tide of his floundering campaign. Unsurprisingly, it only served as a reminder for voters of his backward, MAGA-flavored positions on reproductive rights, Social Security, as well as his anti-American views on foreign conflicts.
Here are the lowlights:
- RFK Jr. doubled down on his views on abortion restrictions:
- Reminder: RFK Jr. has claimed that many people elect to get late-term abortions, and that some of them do it because they recently went through a breakup. Though RFK Jr. has constantly shifted his positions on abortion to suit the audience at hand, he consistently supports abortion bans favored by Trump. His running mate Nicole Shanahan has been a longtime opponent of IVF.
- RFK Jr. defended Putin in his war on Ukraine;
- RFK Jr. repeated his claims about chemicals in the water supply turning people transgender, and that antidepressants cause school shootings;
- RFK Jr. said that Dr. Phil “brought out the best in Trump;”
- RFK Jr. said the U.S. needs to “bring in President Putin and Iran to negotiate” the Israel/Gaza war;
- RFK Jr. said “Social Security is not an entitlement.”
